The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Osun State on Monday suspended its scheduled campaign activities in Ilobu following the tragic killing of a teenager, Ezekiel, during a violent incident that occurred in the community on Sunday evening.

The party said the decision was taken as a mark of respect for the deceased and in solidarity with his grieving family and the people of the affected community.

Supporters who had gathered for the campaign were subsequently dispersed, while a delegation from the party visited the family of the deceased to convey condolences and share in their moment of grief.

Reacting to the incident, the ADC governorship candidate, Rt. Hon. Najeem Folasayo Salaam, Ph.D., issued a statement titled “No Political Ambition Is Worth Ezekiel’s Life,” in which he condemned the killing and called for an end to political violence in Osun State.

Salaam described the teenager’s death as heartbreaking and unacceptable, stressing that no political contest should result in the loss of innocent lives.

According to him, the tragic incident serves as a painful reminder of the dangers posed by intolerance, violence, and desperation in the political space.

He expressed deep sympathy to Ezekiel’s parents and family, noting that the loss of a young life filled with promise and potential is a tragedy that should concern every resident of the state.

The ADC flag bearer urged political leaders and their supporters to reject violence and embrace peaceful democratic engagement, insisting that elections should be decided by ideas, vision, and service rather than intimidation and bloodshed.

He also called on security agencies to conduct a thorough and unbiased investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

Salaam further appealed to all stakeholders to remain calm and avoid actions capable of escalating tensions, emphasizing that the peace, unity, and progress of Osun State must take precedence over political interests.

The suspension of the Ilobu campaign reflects the ADC’s resolve to stand with the bereaved family and reinforce its call for peace as political activities intensify ahead of the Osun governorship election.
