Osun VC: A cooking pot for the goat should also be a cooking pot for the camel
Gunjuwasiu.

The taste of food could never be altered by the type of pot used to prepare it and perhaps this is one of the reasons for this Nigerian proverb that goes thus: “A cooking pot for the goat should also be a cooking pot for the camel”. So, it is irrational for one to say because the meat he wants to cook is a camel, then it must not be cooked in the same pot that was used to cook goat meat because of taste. This is exactly what those who are involved in the selection process of the incoming Vice-Chancellor for the university of Osun state(Uniosun) are doing currently.
The selection process for the new Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Osun State University has generated many ripples, which of course is not unconnected with the requirement that must be met by the incoming number one principal officer of the university as set by the selection committee in total contradiction with the requirement that produced the incumbent and outgoing VC.

It is crystal clear that the outgoing VC, Professor Labode Popoola is up to something, which can only be explained by him and his co-travellers. If not, why would he set requirement, which none of the Professors in the university could meet including the VC himself? Would he had become Vice-Chancellor, if this is the kind of requirement set up five years ago? Definitely no. In fact, he would be the first person to head to court to challenge such a strange requirement.

As Yorubas would say in one of their proverbs that “abẹ tá fi f’árí igúnnugún náà ló yẹ ká fi f’árí àkàlàmàgbò”, which literally means that the same blade that was used to shave a vulture’s head should also be used to shave a ground hornbill’s head. In fairness to all, the same requirement that was used to appoint the past three Vice-Chancellors including the incumbent and outgoing VC should also be used since it is in accordance with the law that established the university some fifteen years back.

I will call upon the visitor to the university, the governor of the state, Alhaji Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola to make an urgent intervention to douse the tension and assure all the players of fair play in line with the last requirement used for the present VC. Otherwise, the matter might degenerate into a court case(s) because those whom this strange requirement was targeted to deprive will not allow the rules to be changed and will pursue their dreams to actualization point.
