Barrister Khalid Balogun B.Sc. (Pol.Sc.) L. L. B, B.L who just called to Bar has dedicated his success to his late father who has contributed immensely to his academic attainment but, unfortunately no longer alive to witness the success.
He wrote – My Call to the Bar Ceremony Without My Father Is Bittersweet; I Dedicate This Success to Almighty Allah
My Call to the Bar ceremony is dedicated entirely to Almighty Allah. This achievement is by His infinite mercy, grace, and favour alone. Every step of this journey was made possible by Him, and I return all praise, honour, and glory to Allah, who transformed my lifelong dream into reality.
The journey was challenging, especially as a family man with numerous responsibilities, engagements, and distractions. Despite the obstacles, Allah granted me the strength, resilience, patience, and determination to persevere until I successfully completed my legal education and was called to the Nigerian Bar.
This occasion is, however, a bittersweet one. While I am deeply grateful for this remarkable achievement, my heart is heavy because my beloved father, His Eminence, Shaykh Yunus Ibraheem Balogun, the late Grand Chief Imam of Ikirunland, who returned to his Lord on 12 January 2026โjust twenty days after I completed my Bar Finalsโis no longer here to witness and celebrate this special moment with me. I miss you, Dad.
My late father was far more than a parent. He was my teacher, mentor, guide, confidant, and one of the greatest influences in my life. He invested in me financially, morally, and spiritually, constantly encouraging me to pursue knowledge, uphold integrity, and dedicate my life to the service of Allah and humanity. This success stands as a testament to his sacrifices, fervent prayers, unwavering support, and unshakable belief in my potential.
From childhood, becoming a lawyer was my dream. I was privileged to combine Arabic and Islamic education with Western education under the guidance of my late father, a distinguished Islamic scholar whose discipline, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to education shaped my character and outlook on life. His legacy continues to inspire and guide me as I begin this new chapter of my professional journey.
I pray that Almighty Allah forgives my beloved father, showers His boundless mercy upon him, grants him the highest station in Al-Jannatul Firdaus, fills his grave with light and peace, and reunites us in the Hereafter. Allah says in the Qur’an: “My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up when I was small.” (Qur’an 17:24). Ameen.
As I celebrate this milestone, I renew my commitment to uphold the ethics, dignity, and noble traditions of the legal profession. I pray that Allah enables me to use the knowledge and privilege He has bestowed upon me in the service of justice, humanity, and the rule of law. May He accept this achievement as an act of worship, bless everyone who contributed to this journey, and make it a source of continuous reward (Sadaqah Jariyah) for my late father.
