OKUN OBIREMI RESUCITATION AGENDA: CHARTING THE PATH FOR A TRANSFORMED EGBEDORE LOCAL GOVERNMENT
Who is Okun Obiremi?
Honourable Gideon Okunlade Obiremi is a successful businessman, deeply rooted community leader, philanthropist, astute politician and a former legislator.
Obiremi, a founding, consistent and committed member of the Peoples Democratic Party, was born over five decades ago. He hails from Are Ilu’s compound, in Ara, Egbedore local government.
He obtained his primary education at Baptist Primary School, Ara and then proceeded to Baptist Modern School Ara for his secondary education. The brilliant and academically sound Obiremi was the Senior Prefect of his set at Baptist modern school. His quest for knowledge and will to succeed made him proceeded to the prestigious Baptist Boys High School, Abeokuta for West African School Certificate, WASC where he also passed out in flying colours.
Obiremi later attended The Polytechnic Ibadan, where he obtained his A-Level certificate. He furthered his education at the better by far University of Ilorin, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Chemistry. Obiremi, an astute businessman is the Chief Executive Officer of Gift investment LTD, with subsidiaries in Nigeria and Ghana.
Asides his business and investment interests, Honourable Okun Obiremi is a passionate philanthropist. His philanthropic efforts have had a positive impact on many lives particularly in area of job creation and empowerment. He has made substantial donations to various causes in Osun state and beyond; including education, healthcare, social events, religious activities and community development.
Political Career:
Okun Obiremi is not a new entrant to politics. He began his political career in the Osun State house of assembly. He was first elected to the House in 2003 to represent the Egbedore State Constituency. His sterling performance in the house earned him a return on 2007 when he was reelected by the good people of Egbedore.
During his tenure, Obiremi held several key positions and made notable contributions to legislation in the state. He was actively involved in legislative reforms and initiatives aimed at improving governance and the overall development of Osun. He sponsored bills and led discussions on various critical issues, including education, healthcare, infrastructure development, job creation, mass employment and good governance.
Training and International Engagements: During his time as member of the Osun State house of assembly, Obiremi represented Osun State on the local and international stage, attending and participating in various training, conferences, seminars, workshops. These engagements have contributed to the development of the state and promoting Osun’s interests nationally.
He was a key participant and state representative at numerous local and international fora which include: Rock Hurst University Continue Education Centre Inc. USA (Managing Projects & Priorities), Legislative Information & Research Centre, Osogbo. Diverse Functions of the Parliament in a Modern Democracy, Lagos State. Citizenship & Leadership Training Centre Iperu Remo, Ogun State amongst others.
Obiremi as a member of the house was not a bench warmer. He was a highly respected, very active and highly ranked member of the assembly. As a very influential legislator, he functioned excellently in the following capacities;
• Pioneer Chairman Osun State House of Assembly Service Commission,

• Chairman Rules & Business Committee ,
• Chairman House Committee on Labour, Productivity & Public Service Matter ,
• Member Committee on Agriculture, Health, Water Resources, Public Account & Appropriation.
Service to the state: He was a Member, Introduction & Implementation Committee of Oyin Corps, Efforts on House Grown Feeding Initiative Projects to Pupils, Introduction of Peace Corps to Enforce Discipline in Schools in Osun State.
During his glorious time as a state legislator, Honourable Okun Obiremi did not only focus on his core duty of lawmaking, he also dedicated himself to ensuring that his constituents benefit directly from government by bringing to their doorsteps, the dividends of democracy. He facilitated numerous constituency that are still visible and serving the people till date. In addition to that, he saw to the welfare of traditional rulers, religious leaders as well as artisans, farmers, traders and the special sections of the society; aged, women and children.
His achievements include but not limited to;
• Construction of 14 blocks of 3 Classrooms across the ten wards in Egbedore local government.
• Facilitating the establishment Alawo Grammar school, Awo and Ojo-Aro Grammar school, Ojo-Ari.
• Construction of primary health center, Alaasan Ara.
• Provision of 15 potable water system (borehole) across the ten wards in the local government
• Scholarships for Indigent Students
• Farm Implements & Fertilizers for farmers
• Construction of Park for the NURTW
• Financial aids to the aged, widows and people with special needs
• Regular welfare package for Traditional Rulers in the Egbedore Local Government.
• Facilitation of employment for Egbedore indigenes in government establishments and institutions, amongst others.
