Buhari Appoints Akpabio Chairman NDDC Monitoring Committee.

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed the Honourable Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio as the chairman of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) monitoring committee saddled with the supervisory responsibility of the Commission for optimum service delivery.

President Buhari in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, Senator Akpabio as the chairman of the monitoring committee is to ensure the prompt development of the Niger Delta region of the country.

President Buhari said “In line with the provisions of Part V1, Section 21 of Niger Delta Development Commission Establishment Act, President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the composition of a Monitoring Committee for the commission.
Members of the committee are, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, Chairman, Minister of State, Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Omotayo Alasoadura, Member, and Olusola Adesola, Permanent Secretary,Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Member.

Other members are; Mr Shamsuddin Bello, representing office of the Accountant General of the Federation, Mr Charles Ikeah, representative of the Federal Ministry of Environment, Atanda Kolawole Musiliu, representing Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Ms Aisha Umar, representing Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Dr M.K Mohammed, representing Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, Dr Dorothy Nwodo, representing the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, while Mr Alfred Abah, a Director in the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, is Member/Secretary.”

Commenting on the additional responsibility given to the Honourable Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Akpabio by President Muhammadu Buhari, an Ikpaisong Reporters in-house analyst, Comrade Edward Abia, said ” naturally, it is a sign of confidence President Buhari has in Senator Godswill Akpabio.He knows that Sen. Akpabio during his tenure as the Akwa Ibom State governor, performed very well and since President Muhammadu Buhari wants to see massive development in the region, he has no alternative than to place someone who shares in his development agenda.”

Comrade Abia, however urged the chairman of the NDDC monitoring committee to ensure that developments spread to all the nooks and crannies of the Niger Delta region and to empower youths in the region to quell militancy.
