Residents of Ogbomoso, Oyo State, on Monday resumed protests over the continued captivity of more than 40 pupils and teachers abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area, demanding urgent government intervention to secure their release.
The victims were kidnapped on May 15, 2026, during coordinated attacks on Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community Grammar School; and L.A. Primary School, Esiele. More than three weeks after the incident, many of the pupils and teachers remain in the hands of their abductors.
The renewed protests coincided with the emergence of a viral video featuring the abducted Principal of Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele, Mrs. Rachael Alamu, who spoke from captivity and dismissed reports alleging that the kidnappers were demanding the implementation of Sharia law as a condition for their release.
Speaking emotionally in the video monitored by 𝘼𝙙𝙖𝙗𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙟𝙖𝙂𝙡𝙤𝙗𝙖𝙡 News, Mrs. Alamu appealed to Nigerians not to be misled by unverified reports capable of complicating efforts to secure the victims’ freedom.
