Legal Practitioner and Human Rights Activist, Khalid Balogun, Esq., has described the tenure of CP Ibrahim Gotan in Osun State as one that, in his assessment, did more harm than good, stressing that the experiences of the period will remain indelible in the minds of the people.
โTransferred or not, CP Ibrahim Gotan did us more harm than good in Osun; it will remain indelible in our minds,โ Khalid stated.
According to him, the issue goes beyond whether the Commissioner of Police is transferred or retained. What matters is the impact of police leadership on the security, rights, peace and confidence of the people.
Khalid maintained that the people of Osun deserve a police command that is professional, impartial, accountable and committed to protecting lives and property without fear or favour.
He further stressed that the Nigeria Police Force must always operate within the confines of the law and uphold the fundamental rights of citizens, particularly in a democratic society where public institutions are expected to serve the people.
โWhatever administrative decision is eventually taken, the experiences of the people can not simply be erased. They will remain part of our collective memory and should serve as a lesson for future police leadership in Osun State,โ he said.
Khalid, therefore, urged the relevant authorities to prioritise professionalism, accountability, respect for human rights and public confidence in the administration of policing in Osun State.
