As the August 15, 2026 governorship election in Osun State draws closer, the people of the state must carefully consider the future they desire before casting their votes. Beyond political affiliations, the election presents an opportunity to choose a path that guarantees peace, stability, and sustainable development.
One of the strongest reasons Osun voters should support the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Rt. Hon. Dr. Najeem Folasayo Salaam, is his capacity to foster peace and unite the state. History has shown that meaningful development can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace. No society can make substantial progress where violence, conflict, and political hostility dominate public affairs.
For nearly two years, Osun State has been embroiled in a prolonged dispute between the ruling PDP and the APC over the control of local government administration. The conflict has resulted in the loss of lives and property, while also creating uncertainty in grassroots governance. Despite several court interventions and legal battles, the crisis remains unresolved, with both parties laying claim to the administration of local governments across the state.
The continued disagreement has deepened political tensions and diverted attention from governance and development. As things currently stand, there appears to be no lasting solution in sight unless a neutral and unifying leadership emerges at the state level to bridge the divide and restore harmony.
This is where the candidacy of Rt. Hon. Dr. Najeem Folasayo Salaam becomes significant. As a leader with vast administrative and legislative experience, Salaam represents a fresh alternative capable of bringing all stakeholders to the table and promoting peaceful coexistence. A new leadership under the ADC would have the opportunity to serve as a mediator rather than a participant in the existing political rivalry.
If either of the two dominant parties retains or gains control of the state government, the ongoing political battles may continue, further prolonging the local government crisis and leaving ordinary citizens, especially those at the grassroots, to bear the consequences. However, an ADC-led government under Salaam would offer a fresh start and a new direction for Osun State.
The choice before Osun voters is therefore more than a contest between political parties; it is a decision about the future stability of the state. By electing Rt. Hon. Dr. Najeem Folasayo Salaam as governor, the people of Osun can choose a leader positioned to promote peace, strengthen institutions, and create an environment where development can flourish.
As the election approaches, Osun people must vote not only for today but for the future. A vote for Salaam is a vote for peace, unity, progress, and a breath of fresh air for the State of Osun.
