Jubilation As Smart Adeyemi’s Supporters Flood Lokoja Streets Over Tribunal Victory.

There was jubilation across major parts of Lokoja on Friday after the Election Petition Tribunal sacked Dino Melaye as the Senator for Kogi West.

Earlier, the Tribunal which sat in Abuja quashed the victory of Senator Dino Melaye representing Kogi West Senatorial district.

Melaye (PDP) was declared winner in the February election by INEC but Senator Smart Adeyemi (APC) approached the tribunal, challenging INEC declaration on three grounds of irregularities, over voting and non compliance with the electoral acts.

The three man panel led by Justice A. O. Chijioke in a unanimous judgement on Friday accepted Adeyemi’s ground and order for fresh election into the senatorial axis.

Following the judgement of the Tribunal, Senator Adeyemi’s supporters and well-wishers gathered at JB Hotel, in Lokoja to celebrate amid drumming and dancing.

Some supporters were also seen at different strategic locations in Lokoja celebrating the victory.

In his reaction, Senator Adyemi’s anchor man, Hon. Julius Arojojoye, dedicated his Principal’s victory to God and Kogi West people.

He also commended the judiciary for its courage in adjudicating with fear of God, saying it was clear that the judiciary was functioning as it should.

“We are very happy for the judgment; we appreciate the people of Kogi, especially Lokoja for their love, support and steadfastness,” Arojojoye said.

“Today’s judgement is an indication that judiciary can save the nation from imminent trouble,” he added.
