Gbajabiamila Takes to Voluntary Teaching in Secondary Schools
The Leader of House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has launched a Voluntary School Teaching Exercise across the 23 secondary schools in his Surulere 1 federal constituency in Lagos state. According to the teaching chart released by his office, the House Leader will shuttle between his legislative work in the National Assembly and the classrooms in his constituency.
Gbajabiamila kick started the Voluntary teaching exercise yesterday where he taught in three secondary schools. The exercise firstly took place at Gbaja Girls Secondary School where he taught their SS 3 students economics and took his lesson note from the Lagos State Government teaching plan which is currently in its sixth week and focus on Petroleum and teaching Nigerian Economy.
The excited students at Gbaja Girls Secondary School took lessons on discovery and development of petroleum in Nigeria, Positive and Negative contributions of Petroleum to the Nigerian Economy, Roles of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). At Onitolo Senior High School and New Era Girls Senior Secondary School lessons were taken on Economic Lessons from Asian Tigers; Nigeria’s common characteristics with Asian Tigers; Factors that Engineered the Robust Growth in Asian Economies.
While fielding questions from one of the students, Abiola Fadairo on the way forward for Nigeria,
“Restructuring is the way forward if you read newspapers you will see that everyday the states are always in contest with the federal government because the current structure we have is lopsided and the states need to be empowered because they are closer to the people than government in Abuja” , he responded
In rounding off the class at Gbaja Girls Secondary School, Gbajabiamila promised to give a prize to overall best economics student in the first term exam.
“I am happy to be part of your learning period and I will also like to assess your performance in your first term exams especially on this subject I taught you and will reward the overall best student” , the House Leader said.
The House Leader will also today teach at Civic Education be at Akintan High School; Ansarudeen Senior High School; Obele Senior High School and continue with teaching of government at Ideal Girls High School, Community High School and Clegg Girls High School .
