Group raises alarm over planned suspension, attack on Popoola
A group, Concern All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has raised the alarm over planned suspension of Hon Saheed Popoola, from the State House of Assembly
The group also flayed planned attack on Popoola by suspected and overzealous loyalists of Gov AbdulRasaq AbdulRahman over his recent comment on the state of APC in Kwara.
In a statement issued in Ilorin on Monday, by Abdulwahab Jimoh, its spokesperson, the group cautioned those behind the alleged plot to desist so as not to plunge the state into a needless crisis.
The group described as cowardly the purported suspension and attack because the chieftain of the party voiced his opinion on issues relating to the APC.
According the concern party faithful, when does it becomes an aberration for a party members wanting the progress of the party to disagree on party related issues and those handling the affairs of the party?
“The people planing this suspension and attack on the person of Hon Popoola are the greatest enemy of the party, who will never call a spade a spade because of what they are benefiting until the party becomes evidently fragmented and defeated in the next election,” he said.
The group called for caution on the part of those planning the attack and suspension, stressing that what is important now is how to ensure the unity of the party by ensuring that all aggrieved party stalwarts are reconciled
The group stated that Popoola has always been a courageous, fearless and forthright party stalwart whose hatred for injustices remained in compromised.
“Popoola is not new to correcting anomalies in the party, he did it under Sen Bukola Saraki, he became a lone voice and was hated for that purpose until Saraki lost out in the election forvfsilure to listen to criticism.
” Whatever Popoola is saying now is borne out of his love and desire for the party, the election is two years away and there is need to reorganise the party,” he said.
The group also described those planing the attack and suspension as sycophant, bottle licker, political jobber and hanger on, adding that rather than tell truth to power they are afraid and in the end they will be the loser.
The group said that attempt to gag party faithful by creating fear, threat or unleashing violence on them would not augur well for the party, but would put the APC at a great disadvantage as the 2023 general elections draw closer.
