The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has rejected the interpretation by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of a recent Court of Appeal ruling concerning its leadership crisis.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, accused the electoral body of acting under external pressure, alleging that the move was politically motivated.

INEC had earlier removed the names of David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola from its portal as National Chairman and National Secretary of the party, respectively.

Reacting, the ADC described the commission’s position as contradictory and inconsistent with both the facts of the case and the court’s ruling, insisting that the interpretation does not reflect the legal reality.The party further alleged that INEC had taken sides in the dispute, claiming the commission had yielded to pressure from the government amid growing political momentum by the opposition.

ADC said it is currently reviewing its options and would soon announce its next line of action, while urging its members and supporters to remain calm and await further directives.

The development signals a deepening leadership tussle within the party, with potential implications for opposition alignment ahead of future political contests.
