It is both laughable and pathetic that Senator Ajibola Basiru has suddenly found it necessary to issue a frantic press statement distancing himself from Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola a man whose political goodwill he once rode on like a lifeboat.

Basiru’s desperate attempt to rewrite his history is not a show of principle but a textbook example of political cowardice. He owes his political relevance his Senate seat, his former role as Attorney General of Osun, and even his fleeting visibility within the APC to the structure and support that Aregbesola built brick by brick.

Now, with 2026 approaching, Basiru is scrambling to align himself solely with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu while throwing Aregbesola under the bus, as if the progressive movement was a one-man affair. The truth? Tinubu and Aregbesola are not mutually exclusive. They are co-architects of the progressive legacy that Basiru now seeks to exploit for selfish ambition.

Let’s be clear: Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola is not the problem in Osun APC he is the conscience of it. It is Basiru who has become a source of division, sowing discord through elitist arrogance and political revisionism. His claim that he hasn’t communicated with Aregbesola since 2021 isn’t a badge of integrity it’s a confession of betrayal.

Where was Basiru when Aregbesola fought to reclaim the stolen mandate in 2007? Where was he when Aregbesola led the charge to transform Osun’s infrastructure, education, and governance? Silent beneficiaries have suddenly found their voice when ambition overshadows gratitude.

Let the people remember: Aregbesola has never been found wanting in character, loyalty, or competence. He served this country with excellence as Minister of Interior and governed Osun with unmatched passion. Those who fear being “linked” to him today are only exposing the depth of their insecurity and the frailty of their political roots.

Basiru can continue denying, disassociating, and issuing statements but the people know the truth.

Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola does not need to be “courted” by anyone his relevance was never a product of proximity to power but of the people’s trust, which still endures.
