The Osun ADC- Gubernatorial Campaign Council strongly condemns the unruly conduct of members of the APC and Accord Party at the INEC Stakeholders Meeting held in Osogbo yesterday.

What should have been a civil engagement to discuss the integrity of our electoral process was disrupted by shouting, intimidation, and attempts to hijack the proceedings for political theatrics. This kind of behavior is dangerous to our democracy and disrespectful to INEC and the people of Osun State.

In sharp contrast, our ADC delegation conducted themselves peacefully and decently. We listened to others, and upheld the decorum expected of a responsible political party. Unfortunately , the rancorous atmosphere prevented us from making oral submissions, this instead made us to submit our position paper. We believe that politics should be about ideas, not noise, and about service, not chaos.

We remain committed to issue-based politics and to working with INEC, security agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure free, fair, and peaceful elections in Osun.

However, we are concerned that if this pattern of provocation continues, it could lead to a breakdown of law and order and this must be prevented by all conventional means possible.

We therefore call on the Nigeria Police Force, DSS, NSCDC, and all other security agencies in the state to be at alert. They must be proactive in securing all INEC activities, political debates and other similar public engagements to prevent any escalation.

Osun people deserves politics without violence and meetings without molestation. Let us build a political culture where every party, no matter how small or big, is allowed to express itself without fear.

The ADC will not be provoked into violence. We choose peace, decorum, and the rule of law.

Hon. Nurein Adebisi.
