The Ministry of Interior issued a statement today concerning the implementation of the death sentence by taโzir against two offenders in the Makkah region.
The statement reads as follows:
Allah Almighty says: โAnd do not cause corruption on the earth after its reformation.โ He also says: โAnd do not seek corruption in the land. Indeed, Allah does not love those who cause corruption.โ He further says: โAnd Allah does not love corruption.โ Allah Almighty also says: โIndeed, the penalty for those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and strive to spread corruption in the land is that they be killed, or crucified, or have their hands and feet cut off on opposite sides, or be expelled from the land. That is a disgrace for them in this world, and they will have a great punishment in the Hereafter.โ
Nazrul Islam Abdul Basir and the woman, Siti Akhtar, both of Bangladeshi nationality, committed an indecent act inside one of the mosques in the Holy Capital [Makkah]
By the grace of Allah, the security authorities were able to arrest them. Investigations resulted in charges being brought against them for committing the crime. After they were referred to the competent court, a judgment was issued establishing the charges attributed to them and sentencing them to death by taโzir, given the seriousness and gravity of their actions in violating the sanctity of the time and place.
The judgment became final after it was upheld by the competent authority, and a royal order was issued to implement the punishment prescribed under Islamic law against them.
The death sentence by taโzir was carried out against Nazrul Islam Abdul Basir and Siti Akhtar, both of Bangladeshi nationality, on Wednesday, 3/5/1448 AH, corresponding to 14 October 2026, in the Makkah region.
In announcing this, the Ministry of Interior affirms the Saudi governmentโs commitment to maintaining security, achieving justice and implementing the rulings of Islamic law against anyone who violates the sanctity of mosques and infringes upon peopleโs honour. It also warns anyone who contemplates committing such acts that they will face the prescribed punishment.
