The Executive Chairman of Ede South Local Government Area in Osun State, Alh Hon. Afolabi Lukman has enjoined footballers participating in this year’s edition of the Abere Soose Under-13 Youth Cup tournament to develop their talent.
Afolabi kicked off the tournament on Saturday at the pavilion of Ede Mega High School. The tournament sponsored by council chairman was part of the categories for the annual Unique Egalitarian Championship.
Addressing the under-13 footballers, Afolabi noted that winning should be their secondary aim saying the tournament should be seen as an opportunity to develop their talents.
“Last year, we organized this tournament, so it comes as no surprise that I sponsored this tournament again to support the growth and progress of youth in our dear town, Ede.”
Speaking on the importance of sports for youth, Abere Soose said they help to increase the youthโs physical activity level and develop lifelong habits for good mental health, self-control, and accountability.
Afolabi, who highlighted the development in Edeland also promised to work with the state government to provide a befitting stadium for them to show and pursue their talent in sports.
He, however, expressed gratitude to the youth of the locality for their unwavering support for His Excellency, Governor Ademola Adeleke.
He lauded the organizer of the tournament, Coach Akin Oyedunmola for his recognition of sponsoring the tournament.
He also thanked Alh Amodemaja, Hon Usman Hammed Alabi Oloseluoni, and Hon Engr. Yunus Olamilekan, and all the Councilors, and other dignitaries for being gracious hosts.
