Former Minister of Interior and ex-Governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has urged members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Osun to begin immediate grassroots mobilisation ahead of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which is scheduled to commence on August 18.

Speaking during the monthly meeting of the Omoluabi Progressives in Ilesa on Saturday, Aregbesola addressed stakeholders and loyalists from across the state, encouraging them to take the voter registration exercise seriously as the groundwork for political transformation in Osun.

โ€œWe are at a defining moment,โ€ Aregbesola said. โ€œThe time has come to swing into action. The forthcoming voter registration exercise is not just a routine process it is the foundation of our democratic engagement. Our people, especially the youth who have been left behind for too long, must seize this opportunity.โ€

He praised the dedication of local ADC leaders and grassroots organisers, acknowledging their financial and material sacrifices for the partyโ€™s cause. According to him, their efforts are โ€œdeeply commendableโ€ and essential to the ADCโ€™s mission of restoring โ€œgood governance and a people-friendly governmentโ€ in Osun.

Aregbesola charged party members to actively mobilise first-time voters and those who have been disenfranchised or discouraged by past political experiences. He reiterated the ADCโ€™s commitment to inclusiveness, transparency, and responsible leadership.

โ€œOur politics must be different,โ€ he stressed. โ€œLet us rise above insults and character attacks. We must engage in issue-based discourse that offers real solutions and inspires hope.โ€

He further called for restraint as the election season approaches, urging ADC members to practice civility and maturity in political discussions and campaigns.

Reaffirming his confidence in the people of Osun, Aregbesola declared that the ADC stands ready to lead with integrity.

โ€œWe are convinced that the people are with us,โ€ he said. โ€œNigeria must work in our lifetime. And we will bring back a government that truly serves the people.โ€

The Omoluabi Progressives, a movement founded and led by Aregbesola, recently aligned with the ADC as part of a broader strategy to reposition progressive politics in Osun State.

As the CVR exercise nears, the ADC appears to be intensifying its preparations, with Aregbesolaโ€™s leadership playing a central role in rallying support and building momentum at the grassroots level.
