In the heart of the southwest, the political temperature is rising again. Not in Lagos. Not in Ibadan. But in the land of the talking drum Osun State. A land where every whisper is a proverb, every handshake a contract, and every silence a statement louder than a scream.
2027 is not here yet, but the chessboard is already drawn. And one state stands as a crucial rook in the game: Osun.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (PBAT), the master strategist himself, is said to be at a crossroads. On one side, his once-beloved political son, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola estranged, defiant, yet still rooted in the grassroots. On the other, the sitting Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke dancing his way through governance, but steadily building a base.
Now, some of the โkitchen cabinetโ folks the invisible hands don’t want PBAT to reconcile with Ogbeni. Why? Is it fear of the old guard reclaiming relevance? Or perhaps, as some whisper in coded Yoruba idioms: โแบธฬdรก รฒ fแบนฬ kรญ kรณkรณ mรกa mแป agbo.โ (The creature that doesnโt want the calabash to be part of the soup.)
At the same time, these same elements donโt want him cozying up to Governor Adeleke either who, despite political rivalry, has been tactically respectful of the presidency.
And so the President, the father figure, is trapped.
๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ฬ๐๐๐ฬ๐๐ฬ, ๐ก๐ฎ๐ง๐ก๐ฎ๐ง โ the water is boiling.
๐๐๐ ๐ก๐ข๐ก๐ข, ๐ก๐ฎ๐ง๐ก๐ฎ๐ง โ the water is cold.
Which one will he choose to bathe with?
Reconcile with Aregbesola, and risk being seen as reviving a past dynasty some have worked hard to bury. Embrace Adeleke, and risk alienating the legacy bloc within the APC, who see the PDP governor as an outsider.
But here’s the Yoruba truth: “แปkan ni Olรณkunrun yรฌรญ รณ f’aramo nibแบน f’ah.”
This sick man will have to find comfort wherever he can.
Osun is no longer just a state. It is now a test of PBATโs political depth, wisdom, and legacy management. How he navigates this drama will echo far beyond Ilesa, Ede, or Osogbo it will signal whether the centre still holds, or whether the southwest, once united, is now in irreversible disarray.
The people are watching.
The sons are calculating.
The opposition is smiling.
And 2027 is not sleeping.
