Lagos APC power brokers are considering a comeback for former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode in 2027, potentially pushing Seyi Tinubu’s governorship bid to 2031. This move is seen as a way to address Epe district’s marginalization and create space for Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, to contest in 2031 when his father completes his presidential term .
Ambode’s possible return is linked to discontent in Epe over his removal after one term, and stakeholders are demanding the zone be allowed to complete its tenure. The Governance Advisory Council (GAC) is weighing options, considering Ambode or former Health Minister Tunji Alausa as successors to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in 2027 .
Seyi Tinubu, 40, has been touted by youth and diaspora groups, but party leaders advise him to focus on supporting his father’s re-election bid. Other potential contenders include Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, and Abdul-Azeez Adediran (Jandor), who has already declared his ambition .
