An Osun State Magistrate Court sitting in Ede, on Monday, remanded in the custodial centre, the suspended Loogun of Edeland, Jimoh Abdulkabir, for alleged cyberbullying and threat to harm one Adams Akindere.
Our reporter had reported that the 45-year-old Abdulkabir was on April 21 suspended indefinitely by the Palace of the Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Lawal, over alleged disregard for the authority of the monarch and involvement in land grabbing.
The defendant, arraigned on four counts bordering on defamation, cyberbullying, and threat to harm, had allegedly posted and circulated defamatory statements on social media (WhatsApp) against the person of Akindere.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
The details of the case with the suit number M/ED/1064/C/2025 partly read, โThat you Abdulkabir Ajibade Jimoh โMโ and others now at large, on or about the 22nd day of April 2025 at about 1:00 pm, at Ede, Osun State, in the Ede Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit: Defamation of Character, threatening violence and conduct likely to cause breach of Peace.
โThat you Abdulkabir Ajibade Jimoh โMโ and others now at large, did with intent to injure the reputation of Alhaji Adam Akindere โmโ, unlawfully and falsely posted on a social media (Whatsapp) and circulate defamatory statement that the said Alhaji Adam Akindere โmโ โhas sold about 200 acres of the said land to some people without the knowledge of either Loogun or anyone in the familyโ, thereby exposing him to hatred, or ridicule, or damage to his profession or trade/reputation.
โThat you, Abdulkabir Ajibade Jimoh, and others now at large, did with intent to intimidate or annoy, unlawfully threaten to harm or cause harm to one Alhaji Adam Akindere.
โThat you Abdulkabir Ajibade Jimoh and others now at large, did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by circulating defamatory and inciting comments against one Alhaji Adam Akindele โmโ on a social media (WhatsApp).โ
Addressing the court, the Police Prosecutor in charge of the matter, Sunday Adepoju, said he had evidence that would be presented before the court against the suspect.
Adepoju, therefore, urged the court to allow for an accelerated hearing of the matter.
But Taofeek Oyesiji, who had announced the appearance for the defendants, moved the oral bail application for his client to bail, adding that the charges pressed against Abdulkabir were bailable.
Oyesiji further said the defendant was ill and was admitted to hospital while being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Osogbo.
In her ruling, the Presiding Magistrate, V.A. Adedokun, remanded the defendant to a custodial centre and adjourned the case till June 19, 2025.
