The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC apologizes to President Muhammadu Buhari, over the violence that marred the presidential rally held on Monday in Abeokuta, in which many members of the party were pestered with stones.

The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has apologised to President Muhammadu Buhari, over the violence that marred the presidential rally held on Monday in Abeokuta, in which many members of the party were pestered with stones.

The party, however, accused the Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, of sponsoring thugs to cause havoc during the rally, saying the development was a display of high level of disrespect, indiscipline and misconduct on the part of the Governor and his ‘agents’.

According to a statement signed by the Publicity Secretary of the APC’s Caretaker Committee in the state, Mr. Tunde Oladunjoye, a copy which was sent to DAILY POST, the party described the incident as a huge embarrassment to the state and it’s people across the globe.

It called on security agencies, especially the Department of State Security to come up with details of the event and send same to the presidency for further action.

“The Ogun State Caretaker Committee led by Chief Yemi Sanusi tenders unreserved apology to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari over the gross misconduct, indiscipline, disrespect and disorder perpetrated by agents of Governor Amosun today at the MKO Abiola Stadium.

“Governor Amosun, using thugs and other urchins wrecked havoc on members and supporters of the All Progressives Congress for wearing yellow vests and caps of Dapo Abiodun.

“The thugs at some points were personally led by Governor Amosun, who was seen on a video that has since gone viral, removing A-Boards and other campaign materials of Dapo Abiodun from the venue.

“Also members of the Caretaker Committee were debarred from mounting the stage by Amosun’s thugs with obvious compromise of some security agents attached to the Governor.

“The unruly acts, not only embarrassed the President and his entourage, but have actually embarrassed the whole people of Ogun State at home and abroad, who have since been expressing their disbelief and disdain.

“While tendering this apology, we are happy that the Department of State Security Service and other agencies have details of the sad events, which we urge them to submit to the Presidency”, the statement read.

DAILY POST reports that violence erupted at the venue of the rally when the Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomole, who had been in a fierce battle with Amosun over the October 2018 primary election of the party was called to the podium to make his address, as people suspected to be political thugs started pestering him and many others with stones.

The situation forced the National leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Hameed Tinubu and others in his entourage to abruptly leave the venue of the rally.
