THE BUHARI ADMINISTRATION AND HER INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT

For the first time in recent history the Buhari Administration has achieved about 30% of budgetary allocation to the provision of basic infrastructure/capital projects. This is a sharp contrast to the previous average of 10% allocation to infrastructure/capital projects in past administrations. In this regard, a whopping sum of N2.7trillion (consisting of about N1.2 trillion in 2016 and N1.5trillion in 2017) actual cash releases were made for infrastructure/capital projects. This sum is the highest so far in the history ofNigeria.

• Roads
A good number of roads have been started, some abandoned ones completed and some rehabilitated under three basic funding avenues namely, Presidential Infrastructure Development Fund (PIDF), the N100Billion SUKUK Bond and normal budgetary allocations.
Presidential Infrastructure Development Fund (PIDF) — US$ 650 million
1. Lagos-Ibadan expressway
2. Abuja-Kaduna-Kano expressway
3. Second Niger Bridge

Sukuk Bond — N100 Billion Naira — 25 Roads being funded by the Bond
Examples of some of those roads (one in each of the Six Geopolitical Zones) are:
– North East — Dualisation of Kano-Maiduguri Road linking Kano-
Jigawa-Bauchi-Yobe-Borno State. Section IV (Potiskum-
Damaturu road) in Yobe.
– North West — Construction of Kaduna Eastern Bypass
– North Central — Dualisation of Sulej a-Minna Road in Niger State
Phase II
– South West — Dualisation ofIbadan-Ilorin Road. Section II:
Oyo-Ogbomoso Road in Oyo
– South East — Rehabilitation of Enugu-Port Harcourt Road Section
III: Enugu-Lokpanta
– South South — Dualisation of Yenegoa Road Junction – Kolo –
Otuoke- Bayelsa ,…..
