Re: Aftermath of New Education Policy in Osun …. By Kamardeen Adabanija

Sequel to my earlier post today, titled “Aftermath of New Education Policy in Osun …”, it is unfortunate that the information therein has been misconstrued.
The intention was to reemphasized that the education policy review was in line with the government mandate to listen to the yearnings of the people, which is highly commendable.
It seem some religious bodies have been misinterpreting the intention of the government to mean that the school have been returned to them, even when it has been consistently stated that all public schools belong to government. The Osun education review does not mean that they have been returned to missionaries or Islamic bodies.
Luther Kings government High school Ile-Ogbo, Ayedire local govt, was a good example of the misinterpretation of the review policy, as the school principal, Mrs Oderinde claimed that the school has been returned to missionaries and therefore, in conjunction with the Christian Association of Nigeria commenced laying of foundation of a new church in the government school.
Earlier, the Union Baptist Government School, Osogbo had reportedly stopped the teaching of Islamic studies when a teacher rubbed off the subject on the time table, claiming that their pastor had told them that the government had returned the schools to missionaries. It took the intervention of the state SUBEB before the anomaly was corrected.
Information at my disposal shows that the government did not give approval for the construction of the church originally and has even stopped the project. That is to show that the Government of Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola is proactive.
For others that may still be thinking in the same line, it should be noted that government has consistently said it owns all schools and the review policy should not be misinterpreted to mean that they had been returned to missionaries or Islamic bodies.
