Osun forest reserve gets a boost,as federal government set to establish tree plantation in Osun.

OSUN FOREST RESERVES GET A BOOST.

…as FG set to establish tree plantation in Osun.

The Federal Government of Nigeria through its agency, the Ministry of Environment, has concluded plan to commence the establishment of a four hectares plantation in the State of Osun for the planting of any or combination of the following tree species: Parkia (Parkia biglobosa), Moringa (Moringa oleifera) and Teak (Tectona grandis).
The commencement plan was made known yesterday to the Osun State Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation, Hon. Sola Oladepo at his office in Osogbo.

The project is aimed at increasing the nation’s forest cover, enhancing climate change mitigation and adaptation, as well as conserving the natural resources for sustainable forest management.

The project according to the Federal Ministry of Environment would be handled by MBX Estate Services.
While welcoming the management of MBX, the firm the Federal Government has contracted to carry out the assignment in the State of Osun, the Hon. Commissioner commended the Federal Government for deeming it fit to have the project in Osun, in his words “this is coming at a time our dear Governor, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola had already mobilised the Forestry Department of the State to raise 250,000 nurseries for the purpose of reforestation of the depleted Osun Forest Reserves”.

Oladepo who assured the visiting team of the State cooperation towards the successful implementation of the project, added that the State of Osun would accommodate the project at the Ago Owu Forest Reserve. “With Teak or Parkia Trees on four hectares of land, no doubt Ago Owu Forest Reserve would get a massive boost”, he said.
