OSUN ASSEMBLY WARNS AGAINST ILLEGAL EXCAVATIONS ON GOVERNMENT LANDS

The State of Osun House of Assembly has warned illegal land excavators to desist from the act henceforth for the development of the State of Osun.

Chairman House Committee on Lands and Physical Planning, Hon Desmond Ojo made this known today during the Oversight visit to excavation sites in the state noting that the act is dangerous and a threat to the safety of the state environments.

He added that there should be revenues generated into the government coffers from the sites regularly and that the ministry should do all within her powers to block loopholes and leakages in the interest of the state.

Members of the committee while requesting for the survey of all the excavation sites to know whether the properties are befitting in those areas and to ensure there are structure specification adherence, advised the ministry on strict enforcement against illegal excavators on government lands and put in place measures to ensure accountability.

Hon Desmond Ojo however promised that the house of assembly would do her best to put in place adequate measures to check illegal excavations in the state.

In his own remarks, the special adviser to Governor Oyetola on Lands and Physical Planning, Hon. Halim Bakare said the ministry has mechanisms in place to check illegal excavations , block loopholes and ensure accountability.
He maintained that the ministry is charging #1,000 on each loading truck on excavation site and each violators made to pay #50,000 compulsory fine.
Hon Bakare in his response to questions of erosion assured the honourable house and the people of the State of Osun that the ministry has expert whose plans on every site do take care of likely erosion problems and assured the committee to called for meeting between the encroachers of government lands for a talk.

Excavation sites visited by the committee includes Osun Government Reservation Area Excavation Site Gbongan road, behind the State of Osun House of Assembly, Central Business District GRA Unity School, Egbedi Excavation site in Egbedore Local Government and Oke Arungbo Area Osogbo West LCDA respectively.

The committee also took a look at encroached government land at Oke Arungbo in Osogbo West Local Council Development Area where members of the committee observed a lots of encroachment act on government land.
