*Man bags 30 days jail term for assaulting Osun Amotekun Corps Member*

A 45 years old man, Jonathan Okonwe, an indigene of Benin City in Edo State, was today arraigned before an Osogbo magistrate court 6, on 3-counts charge of breach of public peace, disobeying constituted authority and assault.

The first count indicates that the convict resisted arrest for refusing to wear face mask, thereby committed an offence contrary to, and punishable under section 249(D) of the criminal code, cap 34 vol. II of Osun state Nigeria 2002.

According to the second count, Jonathan intentionally disobeyed constituted authority and deliberately refused to wear face mask, thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 249(D) of the criminal code cap 34 Vol. II laws of Osun state Nigeria, 2002.

The third count indicates that the defendant assaulted an adhoc staff of Amotekun corps, state of Osun, Funmilola Meshach, while on her lawful duty of enforcing the use of face mask and beat her up, thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 356 () criminal code cap 34 Vol. Il of Osun state Nigeria, 2002.

Jonathan pleaded guilty to the 1st and 2nd charges but not guilty to the third charge of assault.

Delivering her judgment, Magistrate Opeyemi Badmos sentenced the defendant to thirty days imprisonment for the count one and two.

The case for the 3rd count was later adjourned till 29th of July, 2020.#
