Intervention of Rauf Aregbesola’s administration in Education sector of the state of Osun.

INTERVENTION OF AREGBESOLA’S ADMINISTRATION IN EDUCATION SECTOR OF THE STATE OF OSUN.

At it inception on 27th November 2010 the Aregbesola’s administration met on ground an appalling situation in the Education sector if the state of Osun.

The sector was bedevilled with decadent infrastructure, poor performance of students in internal and external examinations with only about 3% of the products matriculable, low morale of teacher, shortage of instructional materials, high tuition fees in the state own tertiary institutions among other challenges.

Uncomfortably with the appalling situation, the government seized the bull by the horn by organizing an education summit in February 2011 which produced the blueprint that it has been implementing o reposition the education sector in order return it lost glory.

As a result of high level of rot, government decided to re-invest the sector through the introduction if radical and comprehensive policy and programs that produced the new education system.

Some of the highlights of the programs are as follows:

Decentralisation of school administration and management through creation of three education Districts and establishment of teacher’s Establishment and Pension Office (TEPO).

School Reclassification in to Elementary, Middle and High school system.

Osun School Feeding and Health Program (O-Meals)
Employment, Training, Retraining and promotion of teachers.

Supply and deployment of Computer Tablets (Opon Imon) to High school students.

Supply of new school Uniforms.
Supply of Omoluabi school buses.
School infrastructure development and Upgrades.

Introduction of Edumarshall.
Implementation of government white paper on Discipline and enhancement of student’s performance in schools.

Under the school infrastructural Renewal Program of the state, the government constructed a number of state of arts school buildings with modern facilities in order to provide environment conducive for teaching and learning, presently a total of 20 Elementary schools with 500 standards classrooms and 22 middle schools with 550 standard classrooms have been delivered and put in to use across the state.

Also a total of 11 High schools with 792 standard classrooms are been constructed out of which 4 have already been commissioned and put in to use. Another 4 have been completed.

The new High schools are high capacity facilities in safe and serene environment that can accommodate 3000 students per school which makes them unique and incomparable to any school in sub- Sahara Africa.
