Good Governance, Different From Balablu

~ Jubril Akintayo Onseyoo

In recent times, leadership has become a hot topic of discussion, especially in the political arena. Many people have become disillusioned with the system due to the lack of responsiveness and responsibility demonstrated by some leaders. However, there are still some exceptional leaders who have defied the norm and have become an epitome of what true leadership entails. One of such leaders is Senator Ademola Adeleke, the Governor of Osun State.

Governor Adeleke has demonstrated an unprecedented level of responsiveness and compassion towards the people of Iwo. His recent visit to Iwo Local Government to flag off a Free Medical and Surgical outreach as part of the humanitarian programmes marking his 100 days in office was not only laudable but also a demonstration of his commitment to the welfare of the people. This was further reinforced when he did an impromptu on-spot check on Reality Television Service which had gone moribund.

However, it was his responsiveness to the sorry and dilapidated state of Bokusoro/Adeeke Bridge that has won the heart of the people of Iwo. Over the years, the bridge had become a death trap, with the stream overflowing every rainy season, leading to loss of lives and properties. it was the Governor’s visit to the site and his promise to rehabilitate the bridge that has given the people of Iwo hope. The people’s Governor never knew about the bridge. His convoy and that of PDP leaders were passing through the Adeeke route when some leaders of the party requested that the Governor stop and see for himself, the sorry state of the bridge. The Governor agreed and checked the bridge. He felt disheartened about the dilapidated state of the bridge and promised to repair it.

In just 48 hours after the Governor’s visit, machineries moved to the site, and work commenced on the bridge. This responsiveness and compassion displayed by the Governor is unprecedented and a testament to his commitment to the welfare of the people. He loves the people of Iwo, and his actions have shown that he is giving them 100% attention.

It is noteworthy to recall that reconstruction of the road linking Ansar-ud-deen Mosque – Kondo – Kuti Junction is ongoing courtesy of this same Governor. Also, Primary Health Centers in Iwo are being rehabilitated by the Governor. Equally, each of the fifteen wards in the town will be getting new source of potable water as one borehole is being sunk in each of these fifteen wards

The people of Iwo are indeed appreciative of the Governor’s gestures. They see him as a responsive and responsible leader who takes their welfare seriously. They have described him as a leader who is passionate about improving the lives of the people. The Governor’s actions have rekindled their hope and trust in the political system, and they have vowed to support him in his quest to make the state a better place.

In conclusion, Governor Adeleke’s actions have shown that true leadership is not just about holding a position of authority but also about being responsible towards the welfare of the people. His love for the people of Iwo and his commitment to their welfare is exemplary, and it is no wonder that the people of Iwo have expressed their appreciation and support for him. It is my hope that other leaders will take a cue from Governor Adeleke and strive to be compassionate and responsible towards the people they lead.
